The challenges of being a learner at your age:

There are many challenges of being a learner in the age range of 40. The first challenge is the constant management of time. I often find myself working nonstop. I work at home, work, and school. I seldom have time for myself and often share my free time with others. The completion of school assigments is challenging as I strive to be "very good" at everything I do. It is a challenge to follow through on everything. I am overwhelmed at times and contemplate what my ultimate goals are after completing this program. I am constantly trying to apply the new concepts I am learning. It is hard to reinvent yourself at this age.

The joys of being a learner at your age:

There are many joys of learning at any age. I feel blessed to be apart of this learning program. I was taught that "education is the ultimate equalizer". I love to learn and read. This program fulfills this passion for me. I am excited to be in a formal program and I have plans for a future in which my new knowledge will afford me many new opportunities. I like being a role model for my peers and I encourage others to go back to school.

Your hopes for the next decade:

I hope to complete this degree in two to three years and teach at a higher education institution. I want more freedom in my life and choices that allow me to spend more time with my family.

Yur advice for people who are entering your decade as a learner:

I advise learners in my age range to understand the committment to a formal program. It is imperative that the adult learner has a passion for learning and the fortitude to complete the program. The adult leatner must understand that the committment to the program will take away from other facets of their life.
